One of our most important purposes is to help meet nutritional needs of people in Edwards County. About one-third of the land we plan to acquire for our facility will be used to provide about thirty plots, each about fourteen by twenty feet, that members of the community can use to grow a vegetable garden. Low income households will be given priority for these plots, but anyone living in Edwards County can apply for a plot.

Besides the garden plot itself, we will have tillers and garden tools available for use by our participants, and each gardener may choose from a selection of heirloom seeds that will be provided free of charge for their garden.

While our focus in this area of the facility is nutrition, we recognize that there may be times, especially in low income households, where this need might be better served by acquiring some extra cash. For that reason there is no restriction on participants taking the produce from their garden to the farmers' market and selling it so they can purchase other needs.

We also realize that there may be times when participants are unable to continue caring for their garden. In these cases they may either find someone to care for it on their behalf and still receive their harvest or it will revert back to the organization, our volunteers will tend it, and the organization will then sell about half of their harvest at the farmers' market to help support our work and donate the other half to the local food bank.
